Vedado needs to be shaken up sometimes and the Yellow Submarine is making a fair effort. While this is a Beatled themed and decorated place it is first and foremost a house of Cuban rock music. The music is typically 60’s and 70’s heavy metal rock extravaganza – think fast and raw – for probably half the time with the other half being dedicated to Beatles covers.
It opened in March 2013 and received loads of publicity including a nice New York Times review. Truth be told this place is well done, fairly cute and has enthusiasm on it side. The large murals inside depict pop art portraits of John, Paul, George and Ringo.
The service is good, prices reasonable and it is non-smoking. My only gripe is that I don’t like the chairs and tables. They are too flimsy and leave the place seeming a little cheap.
Well worth a visit. Make sure you check out the statue of John Lenin immortalized in bronze in the small park next door.
