  • Sangri-La was the first in the new wave of bars to open in the summer of 2012 and is still going strong. This is located in the basement of a Miramar mansion up on 21st Avenue (&42nd street) which is a little way off the usual beaten track. The fact that the exterior is not as beautiful as your 5ta Avenida locations should not put you off, your car will be fine outside and inside this is more akin to a Cuban yuppy bar than a working man’s club. The crowd that comes here is the same one that will make it to Fontana and Melem later. This is the Havana Farándula. Sangri-La is a little more unpredictable than the others and is probably the most interactive with more of an open plan set up encouraging more mixing. There are booths all around the outside, which make a comfortable place to get snacks (or even a full dinner). I have never been convinced by the food here although the non-smoking rule does at least mean that you can eat without tobacco fumes floating over!
