Despite appearing to be of the colonial era, the building on the plaza’s southwest side dates from the early 20th-century, when it served as the U.S. Embassy in the years immediately following independence. Now it houses the Museo of Natural History.
The museum’s permanent exhibitions include mammals, birds and reptiles from around the world, complete with a sophisticated audio system of animal sounds; plus interactive exhibits telling the story of the origins of life on Earth and evolution.
