  • Cuba Absolutely Review: December 2012

Not far from the house that in 1998 was home to the famous restaurant Don Giovanni is a building of the same name constructed in honour of Italian military engineer Giovanni Bautista Antonelli, who designed and built several fortifications in the Americas, some of the most outstanding being the Morro and Cabaña fortresses in Havana.

Some years ago one of the liveliest Old Havana bars was upstairs, which was a lot of fun. Today the serious business is providing food to passing tourists of which there are many given the location next to part of the seawall found in archaeological excavations resumed by the City Historian’s Archaeology Department in 2006 at the entrance to Plaza de la Catedral.

This establishment specializes in Italian cuisine, with menu featuring pastas, pizzas, cannelloni and lasagnes. This is a little disappointing in terms of quality, which can be said to be average at best.
