Best for: Its great location. The lack of pretension can be refreshing and don’t forget the party.
Worst for: Actually not priced as cheap and cheerful. Intermittent service.

  • The Deauville Hotel isn’t smart or luxurious and leaves quite a lot to be desired on the aesthetic front, but it has one of the best views in Havana and its own kitschy charm. It overlooks the wide sweep of the Malecon, a huge expanse of ocean and the romantic Morro Castle and its famous lighthouse.

Currently reborn in peach and red, and already showing the effects of the corrosive seawater, the Deauville has handy facilities (including money exchange and car rental) and a reasonably priced restaurant, which are ever popular with the mid-priced tour-circuit crowd.

Overall despite being a little rough it is rather good value and home to a band of long term residents who clearly like its down at earth charms and unpretentious nature.

Location: Mid way down the Malecon in Centro Habana.
