  • What do you do with an old castle in the middle or Miramar? Turn it into a restaurant of course. This is at least easy to find driving down 7ma (7th Ave.). This house is a medieval parody built in the Batista era by Gustavo Guitérrez y Sánchez.

The main restaurant is upstairs in a kind of formal setting with suits of armour providing the decoration. Dishes include paella, Spanish omelette and Lonjas de cerdo al Jerez (Jerez-style pork slices). These are pretty average and when this fills up at lunchtime make sure that you pad out your afternoon since service can be infuriatingly slow.

Downstairs there is what passes for one of Havana’s best greasy spoon cafes, which actually does a pretty decent breakfast. Recommended.
